Modon allocates SR619m for electricity projects for industrial cities

Thursday, Apr 29, 2010

Since the inauguration of Sudair City for industry and business, Modon has begun the implementation of several vital projects that serve the industrial cities and provide an attractive environment for the industrial investments.

After the inauguration of the development of the infrastructure of Sudair City for industry and business by His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, Modon has taken a second step in the electricity projects allocated for this giant city, where the Director General of Modon Dr. Tawfig Bin Fawzan Alrabiah and HE Eng. Ali bin Saleh Al-Barrak, CEO of Saudi Electricity Company have signed two agreements for new projects to supply the industrial cities with electric power.

The estimated value of the projects is SR619m whereas, the two agreements entered into between Modon and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) included:

First: An agreement for the establishment of the necessary equipment for the conduction of electrical service to the industrial cities in the Kingdom:

The establishment of the necessary equipment for the conduction of electrical service to the industrial cities in the Kingdom at an estimated cost of SR300m. The project includes the establishment of distribution networks of medium voltage (13,8 K. V , 33 K. V or 34.5 K. V) through supplying and extending the medium voltage cables in front of all the land plots approved by Modon in different industrial cities in the Kingdom and the installation of the necessary distribution stations for supplying the administrative plants in these industrial cities.

Second: An agreement for the conduction of electricity current to industrial cities in both Sudair and Dammam:

1) The conduction of electricity to the second part of the phase 1 of the industrial city in Sudair with a total capacity of 120 M.V. and at a total cost of SR164m to include:

1-1) (Switchgear), 132 K.V., Gas Insulated System or Switchgear (GIS Indoor). Supplying and installation of ten (10) cells, 132 K.V.

1-2) Supply and installation of three (3) transformers, 132/13.8 K.V. and capacity of 60 M.V.A.

1-3) All civil works and supporting facilities necessary for the construction of the station building.

1-4) Establishment of double circuit antenna line of 132 kV, approximate length of 40 km with ground cables, approximate length of 1.5 km from the existing station No. 9011 to the proposed station in Sudair industrial city of 132 K.V.

1-5) Establishment of ground cables of 132 K.V with approximate length of 4 km from the proposed station to the existing station No. 8506 in Sudair industrial city.

1-6) Expansion of the keyboard, voltage of 132 KV in the existing station No. 9011 with two switches to connect the proposed antenna line.

1-7) Supply and installation of all necessary equipment for remote control and protection, communications and information transfer (SCADA) in both the station No. 9011 and the existing station No. 8506 in Sudair industrial city and the proposed station.

2) The conduction of electricity to Dammam 2nd industrial city with a total capacity of 134 M.V.A. and at a total cost of SR155m to include:

2-1) The expansion of the central half-moon beach transfer station by the addition of two voltage current breakers of 115 K.V to provide outlets for the ground cables of 115 K.V.
2-2) Supply and installation of (10) ten cells of 115 K.V.

2-3) Supply and installation of three (3) adapters of 115/13.8. K.V and a capacity of 67 MVA.

2-4) the supply and installation of (44) Forty-four voltage breaker of 13.8. K.V.

2-5) Supply and installation of three (3) Capacitors, capacity of 3 × 7 MVAR, voltage of 13.8. K.V.

2-6) All civil works and supporting facilities necessary for the construction of the station building.

2-7) Establishment of double circuit ground cable of 115 KV, approximate length of 14 km from central half-moon beach conversion station of 380/115. K.V to Dammam 2nd Industrial City No. 1 , voltage of 115. K.V.

2-8) Supply and installation of all necessary equipment for remote control, protection, communications and information transfer (SCADA) in both central half-moon beach station of 380/115. K.V and 2nd Industrial City station No. 1, voltage of 115. K.V.

Dr. Alrabiah announced that the industrial cities are experiencing many development projects in infrastructure, facilities and services such as power plants, highways and internal roads, lighting of roads, water networks and sewage and industrial treatment plants, high-speed communications networks (Smart City services), landscaping and other projects, On the other hand, the power plant project for part I of phase I of Sudair city for industry and business is almost complet. It is expected that the electrical energy to be available at the end of 2010.

Dr. Alrabiah confirmed that Modon welcomes investors to invest in the mentioned areas, whether their investments are industrial, service, commercial or residential. Modon also allows for all to request land on-line via Modon website: www.modon.gov.sa.

It is worth mentioning that Modon currently oversees 14 existing industrial cities in different regions of Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, Qassim, Ahsa, Madinah, Assir, Al-Jouf, Tabuk, Hail and Najran). Another five cities being established are in addition to these cities such as, Sudair City for industry and business, Al-Kharj industrial city, Jeddah 2nd Industrial City , Ar'ar industrial city and Jazan industrial city. Furthermore, there are areas for establishment for new industrial cities in different regions of Saudi Arabia, under planning phase in Dammam, Al-Ahsa, Duba, Zulfi, Taif, Gurayaat, and Al-Baha.

The industrial investments in the existing industrial cities exceed SR200bn; whereas more than 300 thousand workers are employed in these cities. More than 60% of the existing factories in the Kingdom are in the industrial cities supervised by Modon.
