Monday, Dec 21, 2009

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth $15 million from Lilama Corporation for an outdoor substation and transformers as an integral part of an electrical balance of plant (eBoP) solution for the Vung Ang 1 power plant in Vietnam.

Lilama is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor appointed to build the thermal power plant for Petrovietnam, the country’s leading oil and gas company. The plant has a capacity of 2x600 MW (megawatts) and is located in the Ha Tinh province, south of the capital Hanoi.

ABB will be responsible for the engineering and supply of a 240 kV (kilovolts) outdoor substation with 12 bays and will also supply the 240 MVA power transformers. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2013.

“Our technology strengths, domain expertise and project management capabilities will help us to deliver an integrated solution to facilitate efficiency and reliability,” said Franz-Josef Mengede, head of the global Power Generation business, a part of ABB’s Power Systems division. “We are delighted to work with Lilama on this project and to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s power infrastructure.”

“We believe that with its vast experience and expertise as an integrated solution provider, ABB is best suited to support us with the electrical balance of plant solution for this project,” said Pham Hung, President and CEO of Lilama.

Lilama (Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation) is a state owned enterprise and a leading EPC contractor in Vietnam with manufacturing capabilities. The company is involved in many of the major construction projects in the country, including thermal and hydropower plants, pulp and paper mills, as well as oil and gas projects.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 120,000 people.
